Sheffield United and Chesterfield have play-off dates confirmed

The Blades and the Spireites now know who they will face in the League One play-offs after a dramatic final day of the season.

The two local rivals faced off at Bramall Lane in a game which would decide who would finish fifth.

And their 1-1 draw ensured it would be the Blades remaining in fifth spot for a 78th consecutive day.

That means United will face Swindon Town in the play-off semi-finals.

The picture was less clear for the Spireites, who knew they needed to beat the Blades to finish fifth.

MK Dons started the day in third place but ended it promoted to the Championship automatically.

They thrashed already-relegated Yeovil Town 5-1 to give themselves hope of finishing second.

And a shock 1-0 defeat for Preston North End ensured that, with the Lilywhites dropping into the play-offs on the final day.

Preston will now have to get over the bitter disappointment in time face Chesterfield in the semi-finals.

Both semi-finals will take place on Thursday night in 7.45pm kick-offs.

The second leg between the Spireites and Preston will be held at Deepdale next Sunday at 12.15pm.

And the Blades will visit Swindon on Monday, May 11 in the second leg in a 7.45pm kick-off.

The final will be held at Wembley on Sunday May 24 at 5.30pm.
