Young Owls striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe is on the verge of joining League One side Chesterfield on a month’s loan.
The deal has yet to be officially confirmed by either Sheffield Wednesday or the Spireites but Dieseruvwe posted on Twitter tonight: “Delighted to have signed for ChesterfieldFC on loan for a month. Look forward to the experience of being involved the Football League.”
It was less than a month ago Dieseruvwe, a regular member of Wednesday’s development squad, indicated he wanted to leave on a temporary basis to boost his chances of forcing his way into first-team contention at Hillsborough. The 20-year-old, a graduate of Wednesday’s youth system, is still waiting to make his senior Owls debut.
Dieseruvwe has previously enjoyed loan spells at Hyde and Fleetwood Town.
It is no secret Owls boss Stuart Gray wants to strengthen his forward line this month. But Gray will have to make a decision shortly on Gary Madine’s future. The forward, out of contract at the end of the season, is set to return Hillsborough next week following the expiry of his loan deal with Coventry City. Sky Blues chief Stephen Pressley wants to sign Madine o a permanent basis but expects stiff competition from clubs who are better placed to pay a fee for his services.
He said: “I think Wednesday will be in a situation where there are a lot of suitors for Gary. That’s the reality of the situation so I don’t think they’ll feel the necessity to put him out on loan again and it’s a case of whether we can secure him permanently or not.
“They may well want a fee and if they do then it’s going to be very difficult to bring him here. And the reality is there will be a queue the length of my arm that will take a fit Gary Madine who has been playing regular first-team football. But we’re going to try.”
