CHESTERFIELD will have to wait a little longer to guarantee automatic promotion from League Two despite a 2-1 win over Macclesfield, writes Graham Walker.
The Spireites would have gone up with a win if Shrewsbury failed to take three points against Stockport - but the Shrews won 2-0.
It was Macclesfield who took the lead at the B2net Stadium, Dean Holden’s challenge on Emile Sinclair earning a penalty for the Silkmen, Lewis Chalmers converting.
The league leaders hit back through Craig Davies, who smashed a 20-yard shot into the top right-hand corner of the goal before Danny Whitaker slotted home with 14 minutes left.
Local rivals Rotherham United drew 0-0 with Hereford, when a win could have put the Millers on the brink of the play-offs.
