Does Sheffield Eagles star Menzie Yere fancy joining Wednesday or United?
It’s not unusual to see rugby players switch codes from league to union or vise versa but football in another matter. Or is it?
Hard-hitting centre Yere showed he wasn’t just a talented rugby player last weekend when he produced a wonderful piece of football style skill which wouldn’t look out of place at Bernabéu or Camp Nou.
Yere, a Papua New Guinea international, had run onto a kick from Eagles Michael Knowles before daintily chipping the ball over the on rushing Halifax defence and landing it perfectly into the hands of Sheffield’s fullback Quentin Laulu-Togagae to score the opening try.
Eagles went onto win the game 36-10 to continue their impressive start to the season.
Menzie joined Sheffield in 2008 and is the club’s highest all-time try scorer.
Eagles travel to the Odsal Stadium this weekend to face former Super League side the Bradford Bulls. Victory over the Bulls could see them draw level on points with their West Yorkshire rivals.
