Stephanie Gandy showed the Christmas and New Year festivities had done nothing to dampen her points-scoring ability with a comprehensive performance at Barking Abbey Leopards.
The Hatters ace netted 23 points to help her side make a winning start to 2012 with a comfortable 70-50 victory over their National League Division One rivals.
They eased into a 29-15 half-time lead and although the home side managed to only lose the second half by five points they couldn’t contain Hatters’ offensive threats led by Gandy.
Helen Naylor and skipper Lisa Hutchinson each bagged 10 points.
Hatters travel to face Nottingham Wildcats on Sunday in what will be seen as a further ‘warm up’ to the BBL National Cup final against UWIC Archers on January 29.
Courtney Shaw and Sirena Sampson shared the scoring honours as the Under-16s started the New Year in style in their derby showdown against Doncaster Panthers. The home side led 16-11 after the first quarter but Hatters then took control and never looked back as they eased to an impressive 60-34 victory.
