Golf: Hillsborough gets ready for festival

n Hillsborough Golf Club features a week-long festival of golf in July that includes three Opens as well as a ladies’ exchange day.

The week tees off on July 14 with an open better ball stableford competition for just £30.00 per pair. It continues with the ladies’ exchange day, a seniors’ open, a company day for teams of four, an individual medal and a mixed pairs open. Prize presentations will follow each event.

n The Sheffield Plate, one of the region’s top amateur events has been rescheduled for August 5.

The championship, staged annually at Hallamshire Golf Club, was cancelled from its original date of May 22 due to torrential rain.

Last year’s winner was Dominic Moon of Rotherham Golf Club.

n BBC Football Focus front man Dan Walker is staging a Pro-Am golf day in aid of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity at his home course, Hallamshire, on September 2. Dan has been a patron of the charity since 2012.

n Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs second team competition at Dore & Totley Golf Club was won by Sandhill with a score of 242, beating Tinsley Park into the runner up spot, with Renishaw Park coming 3rd. Sandhill was represented Shaun Burgin, Stuart Pickerill and Dave Alderson.
