Sheffield golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick has qualified for The Open championship at Muirfield this month.
Fitzpatrick, aged 18, and a member of Hallamshire Golf Club, came through qualifying today at Gullane No 1, East Lothian, with rounds of 69 and 72, one under par, beating the likes of Colin Montgomerie and former Ryder Cup captain Mark James along the way.
The talented youngster, who won the Boys Amateur Championship last year and is an England Boys international, will now line up alongside the world’s best at Muirfield when the championship begins on July 18.
Amateur Ben Stow, from Rushmore in Salisbury and Sweden’s Oscar Floren progressed from Gullane along with Fitzpatrick.
