Two Sheffield Steelers teams did themselves proud at the Coldwell Cup six a side tournament at Welwyn Garden City.
The experienced B team won the competition, against opposition from the South, after beating the young A team, made up mainly of Under-13 players.
There was no problems for the B team of Jon Furley, Ajay Bowry, Shea Brennan, Phil Johnson, Nat Hardy, Dan Aspin and Elliot Ogle in their first round matches as they eclipsed TASIS C 7-0, ASL B 7-1 and Spencer (Wandsworth) 4-1 to seal a last four place.
The A team of Max Croft, Tor Borrowdale, Robbie Hobson, Morgan Buchanan, Matt Howorth, Reece Davies, Fin Corker and Jamie Chambers won their opening two matches, 4-3 and 2-0 against TASIS A and B respectively but then were overpowered by ASL A. Two goals from Buchanan helped them edge out Walcountian Blues 5-4 in their final round robin match.
In the all-Steelers semi-final the A team took a shock two goal lead through Howorth and Hobson but the B team eventually came through 11-3 with four goals from Ogle, hat-tricks from Aspin and Johnson and one from Nat Hardy.
Aspin and Hardy gave them an early advantage in the final against Spencer and further strikes from Aspin and Ogle gave them a 4-1 half time lead. Aspin completed his hat-trick, Bowry netted a rare goal and Shea Brennan bagged a double as Steelers’ golden boys ran out comfortable 8-2 winners
