It was ‘fifth-time lucky’ for the City of Sheffield Hatters last weekend - as they won the National Cup for the FIFTH consecutive year.
The Sheffield side sealed their 16th success in the competition with a 67-55 win over Team Northumbria at Ponds Forge, on Sunday.
Hatters’ lead never looked in doubt througout the contest, as an 18 point haul from Steph Gandy - later presented with the MVP award - made the difference.
Gandy contributed with six rebounds and five steals, while Lauren Thomas-Johnson added 17 points on her return to the Hatters.
Ta’Yani Clark scored 18 points for Northumbria, and Zoe Vickers added 17.
“I was ecstatic to be awarded the Most Valuable Player award again,” Gandy said.
“The game was challenging, especially since we haven’t played since the beginning of December.
“But our hard work and determination saw us improve and ensured we won our fifth National Cup in a row!”
