SHEFFIELD Hallam returned to the top of the Men’s North Conference when they beat previous leaders Bowdon 3-1 in an outstanding, exciting game on Sunday.

Hallam team was buoyed up and ready for this challenge especially after their shock 3-2 defeat by then second-bottom team Preston two weeks ago

They meant business and inside two minutes a penalty corner was dispatched at pace low into the bottom left hand corner by the division’s top scorer, Phil Roper, a perfect start for Hallam.

Adam Harriman made it 2-0 at half-time

Ex-Hallam player Alex Humphries pulled one back for Bowden with 15 minutes left but the Hallam response was excellent.

Within three minutes Roper’s second goal had secured a handy lead they deservedly held.

The Hallam men’s 2nds went down 5-1 to unbeaten Ben Rhydding. Scorer for Hallam was Simon Hujwan.

The Men’s 3rds enjoyed a 5-0 romp against Ben Rhydding thanks to doubles from Ben Hyatt and James Harrison and one from Jon Beeden.
