Holmesfield pile on the runs to stay on top

Division One leaders Holmesfield piled up yet another huge score at their Cordwell Valley ground to maintain their top-of-the-table placing.

They blasted 275-4 from their 46 overs with the Pearson brothers Neil and Jimmy hitting 54 and 53 respectively while Mark Rodgers and Tim Brown each scored 48.4. Holmesfield then bowled out visitors Hundall for 112.

Former leaders, Millhouses Works, returned to winning ways with an eight wicket victory at home to Hathersage who they restricted to 133 despite a fine, unbeaten 64 from Tom Harris. Brad Sampson took 4-55 as Works replied with 134-2, Nick Attrill finishing undefeated on 40.

Will Hellewell was again among the wickets with 5-34 as third-placed Parkhead kept up their title challenge when they bowled out bottom club, Apperknowle for 90. Davis hit 37no as they eased to a seven wicket win (93-3). Sheffield University Staff remain in fourth place after they’d dismissed Hollinsend Meths for 115 but lost seven wickets in reaching their target (Hibbert 38). Sheffield Centralians had a vital win at De La Salle OB. They made 133-7 and the home side fell 12 runs short as Shah claimed 7-42.

Unbeaten Stocksbridge clinched the Division Two title were three matches still to play but were made to fight for their win at Hallam Thirds. The in-form Colin Vickers had remarkable figures of 5-9 as Hallam slumped to 66 all out but Stocksbridge didn’t have it all their own way and finished on 70-7 (Heyes 4-24).

Second placed Calver suffered their second defeat in a row, after being bowled out for just 78 (Phil Clark 5-30), by Parkhead Seconds who moved onto a seven wicket victory at 79-3.
