Throughout the year the ice hockey teams at Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam University play together as one, the Sheffield Bears.

Apart from one day when they ‘divide’ to represent their own university.

That day is this Saturday when the teams go head-to-head in the Winter Varsity ice hockey showdown at the Sheffield Motorsport Arena (2.45pm).

It’s the most popular event in the Sheffield Varsity sporting calendar and over 6,000 spectators are expected to watch this student Battle of the Bears.

Tickets, priced at £3, are available online at www.motorpointarena.co.uk or from the arena box office.

The match, which is a curtain raiser for Sheffield Steelers clash against Nottingham Panthers, helps raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Part two of the Winter Varsity takes place the following Saturday when skiing and snowboarding competitions are held at the Sheffield Ski Village. Tickets are £6 and can be bought through the www.varsitysheffield.com website or at the University of Sheffield Students Union box office.
