Doug Christiansen hasn’t ruled out a second raid on his old club Belfast Giants, as he continues his strategy to make a championship-winning team out of Sheffield Steelers.

The new coach has already mounted one successful swoop on the Irish, bringing offensive American defenceman Chad Langlais on to the Arena blueline for 2013-14.

There had been speculation that he might bring players over the Irish Sea that he rated last season. And that may well be fuelled now. When The Star asked him if the move for Langlais would be his only raid on Giants he replied: “I wouldn’t rule it out.

“We are conscious of the fact we have a positive relationship with Belfast and that is one we have got to maintain.

“Belfast have some great players, and have re-signed some of them. But you never know. Chad is a great offensive player. We are happy to have signed him.”

Langlais, 26, had a peculiar campaign last season. He played for Belfast, after icing for Trenton Titans in the ECHL and Arizona Sundogs in the CHL.

A former transport company sales rep, he’s only been a professional player for two years.
