Gerad Adams says the Elite League should take decisive action to remove stick-attacks by ice hockey players.

The Sheffield Steelers coach was talking after Cardiff Devils players took 100 minutes of penalties in the final session of their 11-0 midweek humiliation at the Arena.

The period saw Andrew Hotham slash Mike Forney, after he’d scored. And there was another slashing-major handed out to Carl Hudson after he went for Cullen Eddy at the final hooter.

Adams, a former Devils’ coach, said he didn’t think there was “any room” for incidents like that in the game.

He said it was important the the Elite League Depart of Player Safety “take those issues very seriously and deal with them in the right manner.

“There were two stick injuries after the whistle which are big, big no-nos.

“The DOPS have to do the right think and have to protect the player and take it very seriously.”

Adams said the scale of the win was mainly due to the amount of Power Plays they enjoyed - they scored four PP goals out of the seven in the final 20 minutes.

The coach knows his side may now have to win all their remaining games to keep ahead of the pack, at the top of the league.

“That’s they we are approaching it yet, we are capable of wining next game, that’s all we are looking at right now. One game at a time” he said.

Braehead remain many people’s favourites for the title, although Adams said: “The teams they are playing are either chasing the play offs or holding the last spot so it is going to be difficult for them, they are coming up against some desperate hockey teams.

“It’s the same thing with us, the teams we are playing, Cardiff twice more, they are battling for top spot.

“I am not worrying about anybody else. I am just worried about Coventry Blaze on Saturday.”
