Sheffield is becoming one of the country’s biggest Futsal hotspots, with the Sheffield junior league starting a league for U7, U8 and U9 players.

The game played by the likes of Pele, Lionel Messi and Ronaldo (yes, both of them!) is currently played by over 1,500 kids in our region, and the figure is growing all the time.

Find out what the fuss is all about, inside Friday’s Star.

We have a two-page special, with report, from Stocksbridge’s vital derby triumph over Matlock Town, and a picture spread on Toni Minichiello’s search for Sheffield’s next sporting superstar.

Amongst the usual Grass Roots favourites, like angling, rugby union and boxing, we have the story of a nine-year-old karting sensation who has set his sights on becoming British champion - less than TWO YEARS after taking up the sport!

As always, if you have a story for Grass Roots, send us an email, give us a call on 0114 2767676 or Tweet us @StarGrassRoots.

Grass Roots returns on January 3 - have a very Merry Christmas, from all at the Sheffield Star!
