Sheffield’s Golden Girl Jessica Ennis-Hill has been confirmed in the British team for the World Championships next month.

But Neil Black, the UK Athletics performance director, admits that there is still no guarantee that she will compete in Moscow.

Ennis-Hill, the London Olympic heptathlon champion, has not graced a track since her gold medal triumph last year due to an ankle injury.

The problem forced her to postpone her latest comeback, last weekend’s Sainsbury’s British Championships.

“Until Jess actually turns up on the track and performs, we can’t be absolutely sure,” Black said.

“But we’re certainly thinking very positively.”

“It’s impossible to be 100 per cent confident, but the progress is good - and Jess and Toni (Minichiello), will make a decision as soon as they can.”
