Jess is closing in on big leap
Athletics: Results and reports.
Jessica Ennis is ready for lift-off, according to her coach Toni Minichiello.
Her long jump of 6.19 metres on Saturday at the City Challenge event a at the EIS, Sheffield, was well below her personal indoor best of 6.44m,
But Minichiello says the 26-year-old Millhouses-based Olympic gold medal hopeful is closing in on a big leap.
He said: “For someone with her flat speed she’s not shown what she is truly capable of. She’s getting closer. I saw a glimpse on Saturday.”
Ennis has confirmed she will contest the 60 metres and long jump at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 18 before heading to Istanbul for the defence of her pentathlon crown at the World Indoor Championships.
