Joe Root may have to pick the brains of fellow Sheffielder Michael Vaughan before captaining the England Lions this week, the Yorkshire starlet has admitted.
Root, who grew up playing cricket at Vaughan’s former club Sheffield Collegiate, is leading the England second string in a four-day match against New Zealand, which begins today at Leicester.
“I have not spoken to Michael about captaincy before but I might now give him a bell and ask for a little bit of advice,” the 22-year-old said.
“I’m really looking forward to it. There is a lot of experience in the dressing room as well and I’m sure they will help me out if they feel like I need it.”
Root has cemented his place in the England test side with scores of 236 and 182, and admitted: “I’ve not felt this good out in the middle for a long time.”
