Katie Summerhayes set her sights high at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Austria.
The 16-year-old freestyle skier from Sheffield had earmarked a top five finish in the half-pipe in her first taste of Olympic action in Innsbruck.
Katie, who was selected as Team GB’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony, did just that as she took fifth place in the final.
She’d qualified from the heats in that position after a score of 55 points but just failed to upset the odds in the medal showdown.
“I’m happy with fifth place,” said Katie. “I said I wanted to come away with a top-five result to be able to get that is really pleasing.
“Just being here with this quality of competition has been great and it’s all good experience for me. It’s been amazing and it was great that my family, coaches and so many of the other GB athletes were there to support me.”
