Poor weather affected most of the Solly Sports ECB Yorkshire Premier League programme with Scarborough’s visit to Abbeydale Park an early victim, but thankfully the ground recovered in time for Sunday’s Yorkshire League T20 featuring Collegiate, United and Barnsley.

Below par fielding and several dropped catches again cost Sheffield United points in their fight to climb away from the foot of the table.

The start of their match with Doncaster was delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield and reduced to 48 overs per side. United won the toss and elected to field first, but they had to wait until the score had reached 43 before they claimed a wicket. Two more fell immediately to leave Town 45-3, before a partnership of 49 for the fourth wicket between Amitpaul Kundra (30) and James Dobson (38) helped recover the situation.

Top quality bowling by Paul and Mark Cummins helped United as the match ebbed and flowed and, despite fielding lapses, they bowled out the hosts for 162 with four balls to spare. Paul took his wicket total so far to 24 when he returned 4-56 including another splendid catch off his own bowling. Cummins won the outfield catching award last year with 23 and has taken ten already this season. Mark finished with 4-31 from 10.

In reply United lost Mark Cummins without scoring, but Paul and Ben Percival took the score to 76-1 before 17-year-old Percival was caught behind off the bowling of Ashley Knowles for a hard earned 27.

Wickets tumbled as Knowles wreaked havoc in the United middle order and, although Ollie Laws hit a brisk 16, they fell 26 runs short of the target. Paul Cummins played the anchor role and was ninth out for 66. Knowles returned figures of 4-50 off 15 overs

Barnsley won through to the Final of the ECB Yorkshire Premier League T20 Cup - to be staged at Scarborough on 15th July 2012 - after they beat Collegiate in the zonal round final at Abbeydale Park.

Collegiate won the toss and decided to bat, but the decision back fired and they were soon in dire straits at 31-8 before a gallant 21 from Luke Shutt helped take score to 53 all out, Simon Widdup taking 3-7 off his four overs. In reply Barnsley had little difficulty and reached the target in the 13th over, Jonathan Trower hitting 19 and Jason Booth 12no. Earlier Sheffield United were put in by Collegiate and could only reach 84-9, Matt Dixon and Will Street taking three wickets each, but there were just eight balls left when Collegiate hit the winning runs. Matt Moroney top scored with 26 and Saqib Hussain returned 4-12 from 4 accurate overs. In the other tie Barnsley hit 91-8, Hussain taking 3-28 but United were held to 80-7.
