Sheffield-based cueman Ding Junhui has set his sights on becoming China’s first ever World Champion after making snooker history at the weekend.
Ding, a full-time professional at the Star Snooker Academy at Sheffield United’s Redtooth Academy, became the first player since Stephen Hendry in 1990/91 to win four ranking titles in a single season on Sunday, when he beat Judd Trump 9-5 in the final of the German Masters. The title was the tenth of Ding’s career, and follows his success in the Shanghai Masters, Indian Open and International Championship this season.
“I am working well in practice, and I just hope I can keep this form going for the rest of the season.”
Tian Pengfei, who practices alongside Ding at the Academy, stunned World number one Neil Robertson with a 5-1 second-round victory.
