Millhouses regain the top spot

The long-awaited clash between Sheaf Sports Yorkshire & Derbyshire Cricket League Division One leaders Parkhead and Millhouses Works didn’t disappoint as the second-placed club grabbed the honours.

Works skipper Richard Everitt was again among the runs with a fine 68 and Dar’s 53 enabled last season’s champions to scramble to victory at 205-8 and regain top spot.

Earlier the home side made 201-8 from their 46 overs with Vinall top-scorer with 46 while Cox claimed 5-117. Chris Turner bagged 4-61 for Parkhead.

Bottom club Hundall dismissed Apperknowle for 128 and then knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket with Andy Timms hitting 55no and Martin Dawson an unbeaten 46 to leapfrog their neighbours.

The Pearson brothers were in fine form for fourth-placed Holmesfield at home to third-in-the-table, Sheffield University Staff. Jimmy hit 82 and Neil an unbeaten 71 in their impressive total of 223-7 (Young 4-34) and in reply Staff closed on 163-7 (Paul Kerry 43, M.Joshi 40).

Hollinsend Meths returned to winning ways at the Olive Grove ground of Sheffield Centralians. They did well to reach 140 (Schofield 4-42) and they then bowled out the home side for just 49 (Nyabezi 4-25).

De La Salle OB also got back in the groove with an eight wicket victory at Hathersage. Batting first the home side were restricted to 141-8 with Askew top scoring on 49 and Willey picking up a useful 5-48. De La Salle replied with 143-2 (White 63no).

Division Two leaders Stocksbridge lost their 100 per cent record as a result of an exciting draw with Millhouses Works 2nd. They bowled out the visitors for 192 (Amjad 44, Rehman 40) and then finished on 192-7. James Ward was again amongst the runs with 68 while Spawton made 53.

Bakewell’s Paul Fern returned 9-16 as Division Three visitors Sheffield Collegiate Fourths were shot out for 31. Earlier Bakewell had posted 211-9 with Lee Tann hitting a fine 87. Totley Sports Seconds enhanced their position at the top of Division Four with a win at Sheffield Zingari.
