Sheffield University Bankers suffered a 3-1 home defeat against new league leaders Bowdon.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 20 minute although Bankers were unlucky not to equalise when Marcus Booth beat two defenders on the left but flashed his shot just wide.
It was all Bankers at the start of the second half and they deservedly levelled it up when James Osbourne added the finishing touch to a slick short corner routine.
Shortly after one of the best moves of the match saw Matt Godden jink his way into the D and lay on a superb pass to Booth but huis resultant effort went inches wide.
However, they were dealt a cruel blow when a hotly disputed short corner was well despatched by Bowdon and then the visitors plundered a third with time running out
Bankers entertain Leeds University on Saturday (1.30pm).
Despite two goals from skipper Chris Downham the second team slipped to a 4-3 defeat at Huddersfield Dragons. Liam Ashton was the other marksman.
Bankers Ladies hit the top spot after their 4-1 victory over Canalside Terriers. Isobel Millar scored twice, one of which was a stunning reverse stick shot, and others came from Kate O’Sullivan, and Hannah Jenkins.
They visit Harrogate 4 on Saturday.
The second team opened the Box with a 5-0 win over Leeds 4, thanks to a superb four goal flurry from the ‘unplayable’ Bronte Box-Morton. Hettie Key was also on target to mark her debut in style.
They travel to Halifax on Saturday.
