Lee Esders is to follow Ashley Tait out of Sheffield Steelers.
We revealed yesterday that GB legend Tait’s was not wanted by Doug Christiansen. Now we understand that Esders will have to make way now that Aaron Nell has been signed from EPL side Swindon Wildcats.
Tait remains the bigger story: there had been rumours previously that he’d be sacrificed should Rob Dowd become available. That remains unclear...despite speculation that estate agents have been asked to find Dowd a property in the Burncross/Chapeltown area, close to the family of his girlfiend, Emma.
Steelers’ owner Tony Smith confirmed our report of Tait’s release saying: “He has probably one season left at this level, but Doug has decided that he is not in his plans. Ashley has been a fantastic servant to British ice hockey, he is a hockey man through and through and deserves to stay in the game. He has always carried himself with great dignity and we wish him all the best.
“You cannot take things personally, when decisions are made like this. You just have to do what you think is best for the business.
“Lee Esders did a good job for us, but he needs to go where there is more ice time so he can develop.”
