Andre Payette looks to build on his perfect start as the newly installed head coach of Sheffield Steeldogs this weekend.
The former Sheffield Steelers took over from Matt Darlow, who parted company with the iceSheffield side last Friday, and helped inspire Steeldogs to a maximum return from their matches against Telford Tigers and Peterborough Phantoms.
Now Payette will be hoping for more of the same in Saturday’s trip to Basingstoke Bison and Sunday’s home clash against Swindon Wildcats but it will be far from easy.
Payette said: “I’m happy with the way the players have responded with the change overand they worked hard to achieve the four points, especially after only one training session with the team since my appointment.”
The two wins, 3-0 over bottom side Telford and the 3-2 overtime success against Peterborough, pushed Steeldogs back into the play off positions.
They’ve only met third-place Basingstoke twice so far this season and lost both but that was before Payette, Janis Ozolins and Steve Duncombe had been signed.
Meanwhile, Swindon, Sunday’s visitors to iceSheffield (5.30pm start) lie just three points ahead of Sheffield but come off a comfortable 11-2 win over Telford in which their import, Jonas Hoog, a hat-trick hero for them against Steeldogs in their last meeting, was again among the goals.
Tickets available on the door priced at Adults £8, Concession £6, Child £3 (Under-8s free), Family £18.
Steeldogs’ goals againt Telford came from Ozolins, Edgars Bebris and Chris Sykes while Sykes and a double from Ozolins secured the points at Peterborough.
Andrew Hirst has signed for Hull Stingrays while Arran Strawson has moved down to ENL 2.
