Easton Angel has been plying her trade in some of the top juvenile events for fillies this summer and can deservedly get back on the winning trail in the Shadwell Stud/EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr.

The daughter of Dark Angel looked well above average when making a winning start to her career in the Musselburgh mud in early May and enhanced her reputation further by following up on a faster surface in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.

Michael Dods’ inmate ran a screamer to beat all bar imposing American Acapulco in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and while she has not been disgraced in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket and the Lowther at York subsequently, the step up to six furlongs has perhaps not suited her as well as connections expected.

Back at the minimum distance in Scotland, she will take plenty of pegging back if running up to her official mark of 105.

Trainer Jim Goldie loves nothing more than a winner at Ayr’s Western meeting and Braes Of Lochalsh looks to be one of his leading hopes over the three days in the BAM Properties Ltd Handicap.

The four-year-old won twice at the track in July over the best part of a mile and three-quarters and has been given some freshening up time since, having already run seven times this season.

He tackles almost two and a quarter miles on his return and there are stamina doubts, but he is sure to be trained to the minute and it is worth taking a chance that he gets the trip.

The Dubai Duty Free Cup is the main event at Newbury and it would be heartwarming to see Dark Emerald claim a big-race success for Brendan Powell.

The admirable grey won twice during a stunning winter campaign in Dubai and has steadily upped his game since returning to Britain.

He has been set particularly stiff tasks the last twice, chasing home the top-class Kodi Bear at Salisbury before being touched off when conceding lumps of weight to exciting prospect Richard Pankhurst at Haydock.
