SHEFFIELD STEELERS were aware of the banana skin they were treading on in Scotland as they slipped up losing 4-2 to Fife Flyers.

A trip to Fife Flyers is never an easy mission, whether you have got a new NHLer in your ranks or not.

And Steelers, with Philadelphia Flyer winger Tom Sestito in their team, struggled in Scotland, virtually right from the start.

American giant Sestito scored on his debut for the South Yorkshire outfit in the second period but Kris Hogg, once a Calgary Flames NHL draft pick, outdid him with a splendid hat-trick in 15 minutes.

Jeff Legue pulled one back for 2-3 midway through the third period, with Ashley Tait and Tylor Michel assisting.

Steven McAlpine, though, gave Flyers a fourth, with two minutes left, from Hogg and Haines.

Steelers are now joint second with Nottingham in the division, but Panthers have 2 games in hand.

Final score: Flyers 4 Steelers 2
