Representative team ready to fly the flag

A FESTIVAL of Futsal is set to hit Sheffield over the next three days.

Men's and women's titles are up for grabs as 32 teams bid for national glory at the English Institute of Sport - the sixth year in a row the city has been chosen to host the tournament.

Teams from around the country qualified via the FA National Futsal League, the university BUCS Championship and from a series of regional qualifiers.

The Sheffield and Hallamshire FA representative team will fly the flag for the hosts in the men's event.

They finished runners-up in the Plate competition last year and currently top the table in the FA Futsal League North.Their Group (B) includes last year's champions Helvecia along with Loughborough University and Lietuva.

Doncaster Rovers Belles lifted the women's title but they won't be back to defend their crown so last year's beaten finalists Watford Ladies will be out to make amends.

Four groups of four teams will play one another with the top two progressing to the knockout stages.

Play begins at 1pm tomorrow, with the last match scheduled to finish at 8.15pm while Saturday's play will run from 9am to 7.15pm. Sunday also has a 9am start with semi-finals and final played from noon. Entry is free and spectators are welcome.
