Wickersley School girl Kristie Edwards is fast gaining a reputation as a rising young star.
In this year’s major electronically timed events, Kristie is now ranked second for the 100m and fourth for the 200m in the UK and is the fastest female out of any age group in Yorkshire for the 100m.
The Rotherham lass was in action at the Bedford International Stadium in the AAA UK Athletics championships, last weekend. In the 100m final, as the majority of the other athletes towered above pint size Kristie, she claimed silver medal, with a new lifetime best of 11.83 seconds. Edwards and her coach Lueng Man have two weeks before the final ever competition to be held at the doomed Don Valley Stadium, the Sainsbury’s UK School Games. (See Grassroots for preview, Friday.)
Edwards will be in action again in the 100m and 4x100m relay as she represents North East England in this national competition.
