SHEFFIELD Eagles produced great attacking rugby to claim a fourth-place finish in the Championship as they hit York for 10 tries.

“We showed some quality touches and some of the tries we scored were outstanding,” said coach Mark Aston. “We’re really pleased that we’re at Bramall Lane against Widnes; it should be a cracker.”

Eagles destroyed York despite the loss of playmaker Simon Brown with a leg injury just before half-time.

Teenager Corey Hanson was outstanding as he brought his try total to 12 this season with a double and Menzie Yere helped himself to a hat-trick after coming off the bench.

York finished in the final relegation place but could be reprieved if troubled Crusaders are not allowed join the Championship.

Prop Jack Howieson, back after a hamstring injury, set up the Eagles first try with a pass to Alex Szostak who powered on before passing to Quentin Laulu-Togage who finished.

Tom Bush pulled a try back for York but touchdowns from Joe Hirst and Alex Szostak restored Eagles lead.

A minute before half-time Tim Bergin collected a loose ball to send centre Hanson clear for a 50 metre run for a 20-6 lead.

Five minutes after the restart Misi Taulapapa’s try snuffed out a spell of York pressure and Bergin added the first of four goals.

It was game over as York were hit by three tries in seven minutes approaching the final 20 minutes.

Mitch Stringer and Sam Scott combined to outflank the Knight’s line and Yere touched down.

The centre claimed a second after dropping over from Vinny Finigan’s pass and Hanson followed up a chip kick for his second try.

There was no respite as a passing move left the York defensive line on the wrong side of the field and Yere completed his hat-trick of tries.
