Menzie Yere grabbed a last-gasp try to seal a brilliant second half fightback against Dewsbury Rams for Sheffield Eagles.

The Eagles got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves ten points down after just eight minutes.

Luke Adamson took advantage of good work by Andy Kain and Ryan Hepworth to power his way over before Quentin Laulu Togagae’s wild pass was intercepted by Dalton Grant, who ran the full length of the pitch to notch Dewsbury’s second try.

The Eagles finally awoke from their slumber when Togagae’s timely offload paved the way for Yere to shrug off the attentions of his marker to race to the line although Michael Knowles failed to add the extras.

Shane Grady added a penalty goal for the Rams before Knowles knocked the ball forward as he looked to diffuse a Rams high ball and from the resultant scrum, Etu Uaisele darted over in the corner.

The Rams were threatening to run riot and Aaron Brown scooted over before Mark Mexico gave the Eagles hope just shy of the interval with a barnstorming run to the line although Knowles fluffed a simple conversion.

In the second half, Dewsbury extended their lead when Nathan Conroy raced through a static home defence to race for the posts.

However, Sheffield refused to throw in the towel and Togagae made something out of nothing to dance his way to the whitewash although Cory Aston made a hash of the conversion.

Just before the hour mark, good work by Knowles and Yere paved the way for Rob Worrincy to squeeze through the tightest of spaces to touchdown in the left corner.

The Eagles cut the lead to eight points when Keal Carlile superbly scampered home from dummy half although Matty Fozard’s kick struck the upright.

Minutes later, Aston’s arrowed kick to the corner saw Worrincy race home for his second score, before Fozard notched a superb conversion from the byline.

With just seconds on the clock, the Eagles snatched victory in the most dramatic of circumstances when Yere picked up possession near the left flank before putting on the jet-burners to superbly race for the line and send the home fans into ecstasy.
