Sheffield Eagles bounced back from their Northern Rail Cup final defeat with a 34-10 win over Keighley Cougars to re-launch their bid for the Championship title.
The Eagles completed a league double over Keighley with sparkling attacking rugby producing four unanswered tries in the first 40 minutes.
Eagles burst into life with three tries in five minutes. A long high pass from Pat Walker broke the deadlock giving centre Menzie Yere a clear run in from 20 metres.
A swerving run by Quentin Laulu-Togagae split Keighleyï’s defence before the full back passed inside for Walker to finish.
A Joe Hirst break sent Laulu-Togagae through and this time his pass found Tom Armstrong who went in at the angle.
Substitute hooker James Davey’s pass from dummy half sent Hirst crashing over the right of the posts. Dominic Brambani missed the first goal but converted the final three tries.
It was 22-0 dat half-time and Eagles increased their lead with a Walker kick misjudged by Daley Williams who could only knock to ball down to Misi Taulapapa to touch down. Brambani added the goal.
Keighley’s desperate attempts to get a score produced late tries for Williams and Elliot Cosgrove, Jones converted the second.
Laulu-Togagae wrapped up the scoring three minutes from time with Eagles’ fifth try and Brambani added the goal.
