Hooker Andrew Henderson will lead Sheffield Eagles in his testimonial game at York City Knights early next month.
The Scottish international has helped the Eagles to win two Championship titles since joining them in 2010. He also played for Barrow, Castleford and Gateshead. The game is at the Huntingdon Stadium, York, on Sunday February 9. York have come to the rescue enabling Henderson to fit in a testimonial pre-season with work still going on at Owlerton Stadium ahead of the start of the league
“It’s great I have got the game I’d like to thank York and their chairman John Guildford for their help,” said Henderson.
“It will be a proud day for me.”
The Eagles travel to French Elite League team Limoux the previous week as preparations step up for the start of the new season at Owlerton on Sunday February 16.
Henderson has played a key role in Sheffield Eagles first stage of pre-season preparation.
With head coach Mark Aston in Australia the Eagles most experienced player has planned training sessions with assistant coaches David Larder and Keith Senior.
“It’s back to reality now as a player,” he said. “It feels a bit weird because I’ve had my foot in both camps but I’m a player first and foremost and that’s my prime role at the club.
“It’s been fantastic and great experience for me.”
The game at York is pay on the gate. Tickets are priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions and £4 children.
