Sheffield Eagles most experienced player Andrew Henderson is backing the team to come back strong in the second half of the season.

The Scottish international hooker believes a couple of “good wins” would provide the confidence boost the faltering Championship title-holders need.

“A poor run of form can change” he said. “We’re at the half-way point but there’s still plenty of games to go.

Back-to-back wins and all of a sudden that belief starts to come back. You get the continuity back and you can start to build.”

The Eagles need to start winning home games with strugglers Workington Town the visitors to Owlerton on Sunday.

Henderson said: “We have to turn home form around. We’re a team that’s not playing with confidence at the moment. It’s amazing when you are confident the way the game goes for you. Momentum is a great thing. This is somewhere we haven’t been for a couple of years. As a team we’ve enjoyed success and haven’t had this inconsistency in our game for a long time.”

Henderson could be recalled to the team after being left out for the defeat at Whitehaven. It’s been a season of transition for Eagles following the move from Don Valley and the loss of several of the Championship winning squad but Henderson won’t hide behind that.

“The changes don’t excuse players’ lapses of concentration, we’ve had too many errors and dumb penalties” he said. “It’s down to individual responsibility, players have to make sure they are concentrating.”

“Unfortunately we are lacking in some areas of our game and we need to be better.”
