Rugby Union: Blackett issues Titans rallying cry

Rotherham coach Lee Blackett is appealing for massive support from South Yorkshire’s rugby fans on Sunday as the Titans take on Bristol in the second leg of the semi-final promotion play offs at Abbeydale in Sheffield.

Rotherham are 12 points behind from the first Championship semi-final at Ashton Gate last Saturday when they lost 32-20 having led by 17-8 until 63 minutes.

“There’s no doubt that the crowd of more than 7,000 helped Bristol to get the lead they have,” said Blackett. “Now we need the home crowd at Abbeydale to get solidly behind us so that we can cut the deficit right back.

“We had a good crowd in Sheffield when we played Bristol in the semi-final last May so another one like that would be a big help to us, particularly in the early stages of the game.

We will be doing our best to make sure Sunday’s game is not our last of the season and my last at Rotherham. We know that Bristol are clear favourites but we can take a lot of confidence from the chances we created at Ashton Gate.

“What we must do is make sure that this time we finish off the scoring opportunities we create which we didn’t always do at Bristol.”
