Saints turning up the Heat

Despite the absence of injury victims Kingsley Ellmer and Javan Hayles, City of Sheffield Saints had a comfortable 85-56 home win over Huddersfield Heat.

Saints took the first quarter 21 – 14 and Jim Rose then hit eight points and had two steals as they opened up a commanding 45-27 lead at the break.

Pete Olusoga sank seven of eight from the free throw line as the home side took a 69-40 advantage into the final quarter and Saints then closed the game out to help give birthday ‘boy,’ player-coach Garnet Gayle, something extra to celebrate.

Saints face a double-header weekend with a trip to Derby tomorrow followed by a home clash against Sefton at All Saints on Sunday (2pm).

The Under-13s had a comprehensive 100-40 victory over neighbours Rotherham to go clear at the top of the North East League while the Under-14s moved up to fourth with a 57-41 win at York.

Meanwhile the Under-16s took maximum points from their double-header against Trafford. They won the home game 70-51 and eased to an 88-55 success in the return in Manchester to move into second place in the Premier North League.
