It could be a wild night at the EIS tomorrow (7.30pm) as the Sheffield One Health Sharks go toe-to-toe with Leicester Riders for the second consecutive Friday.
If the rematch is anything like last week’s affair then it should be quite an occasion. The result was a good one for Sheffield with an 86-79 win, which set them up for a narrow 92-91 victory at MK Lions on Saturday. The two results moved them into fourth in the BBL Championship.
Most intriguing for tomorrow is whether there will be any carry-over of the bad feeling that marred the end of last week’s match. Sharks pair Marcus Stout and Steve Dagostino, and Riders duo Jo Harris and JR Blount all received technical fouls for confrontations during the final minute of action. It stemmed from Dagostino being flattened twice by some robust Riders defending.
Sharks player-coach Atiba Lyons thinks both teams will remember but it shouldn’t impact on the result:
“When you play teams close together and stuff like that happens then you hang on to it. They’ll be fired up, it’s inevitable. It’ll be good. Both our games against the Riders have been tooth and nail situations. We will need to go into this game focused and geared up for a physical night.
“We have to do a better job of controlling the tempo of the game and make sure we don’t play too fast and make mistakes while defensively we need to do a better job on the ball.”
On Saturday night the Sharks travel to Guildford Heat.
