Sheffield Women’s Volleyball side bounced back from their defeat against Oxford last week with victory over Loughborough - all thanks to a cup of coffee!
Sheffield overcame a highly-rated Loughborough team 3-1 at All Saints on Saturday, and Sheffield coach Steve McKeown explained: “It was all down to a cup of coffee and a chat with new signing and former Leeds Carnegie Super 8 player Klaudia Wieczorek.
“Klaudia suggested a change to our defensive system to counteract the tip and roll tactics that hurt us so badly against Oxford.”
After taking the first set 25-17, Sheffield were unable to press home their advantage and lost the second set 20-25. The next set saw Sheffield playing some of their best volleyball of the season, taking it 25-14. Lapses in concentration allowed Loughborough back into the game, in the final set, but consistent serving from Grace Burton, Charlie Sprague and rooky Rheanne Lord saw the home team over the line 25-21 in the fourth.
Wieczorek was named as the stand-out performer for Sheffield, after her best passing and defensive game since signing for the club six weeks ago.
This weekend, the Men’s Super 8 team face London Polonia at home on Saturday (2.15pm) and then entertain Wessex on Sunday (1.45pm). Both games are at All Saints Sports Centre. The women’s team are on their travels on Saturday, playing Manchester Marvels.
