Sheffield has become the temporary ‘home’ of international figure skating this week as Europe’s finest take to the ice this week.

Around 200 competitors from 40 countries are taking part in the ISU European Figure Skating Championships at the Motorpoint Arena - the first time the prestigious event has been held in this country in more than 20 years.

Yesterday was marked as a royal occasion when Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex attended the official opening ceremony. The competition finishes on Saturday and concludes with a gala performance on Sunday.

Tickets, from £10 to £31, are available online at www.motorpointarenasheffield.co.uk or call 0114 2565656 or in person from the Arena Box office.
