Sheffield maintained their play-off push in Yorkshire One with a hard-fought 38-31 win at Bradford Salem in a high scoring contest.
A fast start by Sheffield was rewarded on 10 minutes when prop Tommy Marples crashed over to the left of the posts after good driving from the forwards.
A penalty by Salem reduced the gap and soon the home team were ahead 10-5 with a try and conversion.
As they have all season, Sheffield showed their resilience. Joe Cribley touched down and Donal Collins added the conversion. The match ebbed and flowed up to half time with Sheffield holding a 26-24 lead. After seven tries in the first half the second was a more dour affair with a Collins drop goal and three penalties giving Sheffield a 38-24 cushion.
A late try and conversion reduced the arrears to 38-31 but Sheffield had controlled the match and were in no mood to let the win slip away.
