Cricket: Barnsley’s Kathy Brunt an England doubt
Cricket
KATHY Brunt is a doubt for England women’s next game in their defence of the Women’s World Cup in India.
The opening bowler from Barnsley twisted her ankle during her sixth over, having already taken two wickets on the way to beating West Indies in the Group stage.
She has been under treatment with fears she may miss the first of the super Six stage matches against Australia in Mumbai tomorrow.
Brunt’s 2-10 helped dismiss the West Indies for 101 and England strolled to a six wicket win.
*England’s men suffered defeat off the final ball against a New Zealand XI ahead of the three-match T20 series starting on Saturday.
England made 170-5 with Eoin Morgan 51no off 28 balls and Joss Buttler 51 off 31 balls adding 87 off 8.2 overs. Michael Lumb made 45.
The NZ XI, needing five off the last over from Jade Dernbach, got home with a single off the final ball at 171-7.
Skipper Stuart Broad - who took a hat-trick in the previous day’s 46 run win over the same opponents - took 3-24.
Joe Root, pulled into the squad as a late replacement, didn’t figure in either game.
*Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale and new signing, bowler Jack Brooks, together with six Academy players, are going to Sri Lanka on Feb 18 for an eight-day training camp.
