Danny waits on emergency signal

DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, will shortly discover whether he can enter the emergency loan market.

Wilson has spent the past week compiling a list of targets should Bramall Lane’s board grant permission for him to further re-inforce a squad bolstered by the arrivals of Marcus Williams, James Beattie and Will Hoskins during the transfer window.

Coaching staff are believed to harbour concerns about a lack of recognised cover at centre-half should either Neill Collins or Harry Maguire become unavailable for selection.

Wilson would almost certainly like to offer David Weir a short-term contract after allowing the former Glasgow Rangers captain to train at Shirecliffe and hopes United’s rise to fourth in League One will persuade the club’s hierarchy to make the necessary funding available.

“We’ve looked at a few things,” Wilson said. “If we are able to do that then, hopefully, we’ll be in a position to move.”

Wilson recently quashed speculation he could be on a collision course with United’s directors by publicly supporting their policy of reducing expenditure in an effort to comply with forthcoming legislation.

United plan to implement changes over the course of the next two transfer windows, although those charged with overseeing the process believe it can be achieved without compromising the quality or depth of options at Wilson’s disposal.

Wouldnt mind a centre half! Weir deffo would not be first choice, we dont really have pace in that position so a quick centre half would be great ! In Wilson we trust!! UTB
