Sheffield United: Blades urged to ‘stick together’

CAPTAIN Michael Doyle is pleading with his Sheffield United teammates to stick together as they look to turnaround their slump in fortunes.

Danny Wilson’s troops have lost four out of their last seven outings in all competitions, including three on the trot at Bramall Lane.

Following the postponement of the midweek clash with Crawley Town due to a waterlogged pitch, the sixth-placed Blades continue to trail joint leaders Tranmere Rovers and Doncaster Rovers by eight points.

One thousand four hundred fans are set to cheer on Wilson’s side at Shrewsbury Town this Saturday and Doyle is confident the team can quickly rectify their inconsistent form.

“We are going through a bad patch and that’s what happens when things go against you,” the midfielder told The Star. “There is no point feeling sorry for ourselves. We have got to pick ourselves up and keep going. We have to stand up and be counted for now.

“In the last few years, we have not been used to losing games at home so to lose three in a row is really disappointing. It is important we stick together and try and grind out a result.

“We were not anywhere near it in the first half against Coventry but we got the crowd right behind us in the second half. All they want to see is us having a go. We got the equaliser and I thought we were going to go on and win the game but we got a bit of a sucker-punch at the end.”

* United’s Under-21s side’s clash at Wigan Athletic has been rearranged for Tuesday 26 March, kick-off 2pm. The fixture was called off last month because of bad weather.
