DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, is “optimistic” of entering the loan market ahead of tomorrow’s deadline for emergency loan signings.

Wilson was speaking after watching his team draw 3-3 with Crewe Alexandra last night at Bramall Lane.

“We’ll have to wait and see what happens,” Wilson said. “We’re trying our best and I’m always optimistic.

“We had a very young bench out there and we can’t really afford any more injuries to senior players so we are trying to box clever.”

Although Wilson refused to divulge exactly where he wants to strengthen, a wide player tops his list of priorities.

The Star understands talks have been held with Leicester City aimed at bringing Paul Gallagher back to South Yorkshire. At least two other potential targets are believed to have been identified.

Wilson, who revealed Ryan Flynn and Shaun Miller both suffered knocks against Steve Davis’ side, acknowledged defensive failings were the cause of United’s failure to beat Crewe.
