SHEFFIELD UNITED: Lane ace Neill Collins in hospital

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson fears Neill Collins could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after revealing the defender was taken to hospital following his team’s win over Scunthorpe.

Collins was forced to retire early in the second half following a clash of heads with an opposition player.

Although initial reports were not conclusive, Wilson admitted medical staff suspect the Scot has suffered a fractured cheekbone.

“We don’t know exactly what Neill has done yet but it looks very depressed,” Wilson told The Star.

“He left the stadium and went straight to hospital. They’ll have a look and we’ll know much more then.

“Neill is a warrior so when he goes down and stays down for a while you know it’s something serious.

“He showed his bravery by going in for the header in the first place because he probably knew he was going to take a knock.

“It’s very disappointing and frustrating.”

Shaun Miller, who grabbed United’s first goal of a victory which ensured they stayed top of the League One table, could also miss this weekend’s visit of bottom club Hartlepool after hobbling off.

Wilson added: “He’s hurt his knee but we don’t know the full extent yet.

“We should discover more about his situation in about 24 or 48 hours.”

Dave Kitson and Nick Blackman completed the scoring for United against opponents whose manager, Brian Laws, had few complaints about the final outcome.

“I couldn’t argue with that,” he said. “Sheffield United punished our mistakes and you can’t make mistakes against a team which is flying in such good form.

“You want them (United) to work for things rather than us give them away on a plate, but, having said all of that, I think we worked the ball well before the interval.”
