Sheffield United: New boy wants Blades success
JONATHAN Forte has admitted it “would mean the world” to help Sheffield United achieve promotion following his emotional return to Bramall Lane.
And Southampton centre-forward, who is scheduled to spend the rest of the season on loan with Danny Wilson’s side, insisted he will “bust a gut” to ensure that dream comes true.
Forte, a product of United’s youth academy, told The Star: “This is my team, this is where it all began for me and it would be the best thing ever if I could help us go up because I’m a Sheffield lad.
“Really, that would mean absolutely everthing and I’ll be giving absolutely everything I’ve got to make sure that happens.
“Even though I’ve been away for a while now, United was always the first result that I looked for.
“It’s brilliant to be back. Honestly, I was so excited when I realised this opportunity had come up.
“Whatever is asked of me, I’m ready to do. Hopefully I can play my part in helping us get back to where we want to be.”
“I knew I’d be going out on loan and when found out where to I didn’t have to think twice,” Forte, who signed before Thursday’s transfer deadline, added.
“It all happened pretty quickly.
“I found out in the afternoon, packed my bags and that was it.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted but I’ve seen enough to know that we can do it.”
Forte, aged 26, was referring to Friday’s defeat by Coventry City which means United enter tomorrow’s crucial home fixture against Crawley Town sixth in the League One table.
Wilson, who acknowledged afterwards that Forte’s introduction as a second-half substitute had threatened to change the course of the contest before Leon Clarke’s late goal saw the visitors claim maximum points, is now expected to include the on-loan striker in his starting 11 against Richie Barker’s charges.
Despite that crushing blow, Forte insisted: “We can still get back in there, don’t worry about that.
“We know we need to go on a run but we’re more than capable of doing it because of the players we’ve got here.
“So long as we all stick together, I’ve already seen enough to know what we can go out there and do.”
