SHEFFIELD UNITED: Skipper hails ‘very clever’ Blades star

PROMOTION hopefuls Sheffield United are “very lucky” to have Dave Kitson at Bramall Lane, says captain Michael Doyle.

The striker made his long-awaited comeback from a hamstring problem in the goalless draw with league leaders Tranmere Rovers.

Following an impressive 27-minute cameo in the second half, the Hitchin-born player, who turns 33 next month, is in contention to start at Crawley Town this Saturday.

“Dave has been brilliant for the team,” the Irishman told The Star. “There is so much more to his game than just being a targetman.

“He is great to play with and he has got so much experience. He works so hard for the team; we are very lucky to have him. He is a very clever player.”

“Dave has been massive for us and the more people we have who are capable of scoring goals the better,” added Doyle, who is an injury concern for Danny Wilson’s side after suffering a heavy blow against Rovers.

Since joining the Blades in August from financially troubled Portsmouth, Kitson has netted three times in 10 appearances, including the winner at Preston North End. The forward, contracted to United until the end of the season, missed 10 matches in all competitions through injury.

United have inserted a clause into the deal which could see Kitson remain in South Yorkshire for a further 12 months as long as the club, who are third in League One, secure promotion.
