SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY: Ban adds to Miguel Llera’s own-goal heartbreak
MIGUEL Llera must handle a second dose of disappointment on top of his own goal at Forest on Saturday.
The Owls defender’s booking for a foul in the last minute was his fifth of the season so he will serve a one-match ban when the Owls face Leicester at Hillsborough at the weekend.
Martin Taylor looks set to return this time after manager Dave Jones kept faith with Llera at the City Ground.
Team-mates have told the Spanish centre back to keep his chin up though his goal brought about a 1-0 defeat.
Jose Semedo said colleagues have told Llera: “You have to carry on; you have been tremendous for us and have won so many games for this club, scored so many goals to get us three points.”
Llera was also having a good game on Saturday until his goal.
Semedo felt that Wednesday paid for missing chances earlier, and he added: “Everyone around him is supporting him.
“If you don’t score you are more likely to lose. The goal made a big difference; they then had something to hang on to. If we had put our chances in, it could have been different.”
Semedo believes that the team can pick themselves up: though they have lost three games on the trot.
“We should be more worried if we don’t perform well and we lose, but that is not the case. As soon as we start to score that first goal, things can be different for us.
“We are better than we were six weeks ago. We performed well and it’s painful because we did not deserve to lose.
“We should have done better with the chances we created. But we have some positive things to take into the next game.”
Semedo takes on board Jones’ view that a striker signing is needed: “If the manager says that, he is right, because he is experienced and he knows what he needs.”
The popular midfielder thanked fans for the Semedo Day tribute to him on Saturday when fans wore Semedo masks and sported Portugal colours. “It was unebelievable, and emotional for me,” he said.
