Sheffield Wednesday: Jones ponders more deals

OWLS manager Dave Jones said this afternoon that further moves before today’s 11pm transfer deadline could follow Chris O’Grady’s loan exit to Barnsley.

“There may be one or two go out - it’s whether we get other people in,” he said.

“We have the one week to get over, then we can still loan.

“We’re not going to be buying anybody so there’s no mad rush to get somebody in at this moment..

“But we’re working on one or two things; if it comes off, fine, if it doesn’t then it’s still fine with us”.

Jones indicated that any ougoings would give the club scope to bring someone in when the emergency loan market opens in a week’s time, even if no-one arrived today.

When asked if there had been any interest in Gary Madine, who is fancied by Coventry and has been linked with Swindon, the Owls manager said: “I’ve had interest in a lot of players. I’m not going to talk about individuals.

“If there’s interest and we want them to go, then we speak to the players. I haven’t spoken to Gary.

“Sometimes people release things just to test the water. We’re not in that business, We go about our business in the right way.”

Wednesday are giving a trial to Jeffrey Sarpong, a 24-year-old forward who has left Spanish club Real Sociedad and used to play for Ajax.

As he is a free agent, he could be signed at any time.

Jones stressed that it is not unusual for the club to take a look at trialists.

Sarpong has been training with the Owls for a few days and will probably be with them for a couple more, added Jones.

An Austrian midfield player, Thomas Prager, left the club this week after a brief trial.
