Sheffield Wednesday: Jones praises ‘selfish’ Lita

WHEN Dave Jones calls Leroy Lita selfish, it is not a criticism.

The Owls manager appreciates the loan striker’s hunger for goals and the effective way he puts them away.

Lita’s winner against Crystal Palace last week was another demonstration of the poacher’s instinct, coming after his strikes against Charlton and Brighton.

“Leroy is a very selfish person on the pitch; I mean that as a compliment,” said Jones, also citing two examples where the 28-year-old did not hit the net.

“On Saturday he had a chance to score, when he should have slipped the ball to JJ; two minutes after that, the compliment should have been returned, and he absolutely lambasted (JJ) because he didn’t get the ball.

“That’s what makes him the goalscorer he is.

“He’s also unpredictable. Outside the box he’s a bit lazy; inside the box he comes alive; you saw that with the goal he got (against Palace). He has that experience - he’s done it all his career. Hopefully that will continue.”

Lita will be looking to sniff out a fourth goal for him in six games for the Owls when Forest come to town tomorrow.

It will also be a centre-stage day for David Prutton, a revelation in the Wednesday side in recent weeks and a former Forest player.

Born in Hull, he came through the City Ground youth system and made his name there, putting together 155 appearances.

He joined Southampton for £2.5m in January, 2003, and returned to Forest on loan for the second half of the 2006-07 season.

Southampton’s former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp is on loan at Forest but has not been in the side picked by Billy Davies lately.

Davies has preferred a partnership of Simon Cox and Dexter Blackstock or another ex-Blades forward, Darius Henderson, who played in last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Charlton. Sharp replaced Cox for the last 10 minutes.
